About local host and organizer
Message from Mariam: “You MUST go play in the GGWCUP!”
We are proud to present Mariam Mpaata as our lead local partner in the East Arica region. Mariam is a sports activist with more than eleven years of experience in football for youth and women in Africa. She is a founder of several football initiatives and a lead consultant at Afrika Sports Foundation Center. She believes that sports is a key ingredient to achieving positive change our societies.
In 2020 Mariam will build her first GGWCUP East Africa tournament in Kampala, Uganda in partnership with Afrika Sports Foundation Centre and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
The first time we met local host and organizer Mariam was in 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya when she participated in the GGWCUP Nairobi and next in 2018 when her Team Soccer Divas traveled to South Africa to participate in the GGWCUP Johannesburg 2018.
After GGWCUP Nairobi 2017 Mariam and the team started to strongly advocate for SDGs in their activities through the Soccer Divas Club - the first female amateur football club in Mombasa. The club is more than just football. They made it about standing united to heal and improve their community.
We strongly believe that as women we have power to create change. Because we are influencing both our sisters, our husbands and our children everyday. Football has became a useful tool that gives us courage to amplify our voices.
