Team Belles Of The Ball from Kenya will play for Global Goal 3 at the GGWCup in Kampala, Uganda

Team Belles Of The Ball come from Sports Legal KE founded by sports lovers and enthusiasts seeking to achieve a belle vision: to leverage the power of sport for the empowerment of women, youth and People Living with Disabilities in Kenya, regionally and internationally.

Welcome to the players: Farhia Mahad, Bernadette Atieno, Wavinya Mbaluka, Gladys Toroitich, Kula Roba Wako, Susan Njoki, Tanya Saleh, and Stephanie Achieng.

Team Belles Of The Ball is everything sports (also the legal part of being an athlete), and they want to make room for girls and women on the playing field. They will raise awareness and advocate for the eradication of cultural, political, social and economic factors that curtail and/or diminish the extent to which girls and women in generally enjoy the right to play.

The team will travel from Nairobi in Kenya to participate in the first GGWCup East Africa in Kampala, Uganda.

This is how the Team will take action for their Goal

  • To eradicate cultural, political, social and economic factors that curtail and/or diminish the extent to which girls and women in general enjoy this right.

  • To promote women participation in sports by championing against gender stereotypes, sexual exploitation, gender-based violence (GBV) in a manner that contributes to their development.

  • To promote gender equality in sports as a tool for sustainable development.

  • To provide a platform for girls and women to partake in physical activity in a secure, positive and comfortable environment, develop an understanding of the importance for optimum health and physical activity through practical engagement with a view to create a vibrant community of active girls and women who enjoin in common passion and learn new skills in sport and fitness and encourage women to push beyond societal limits that hinder their productivity.

  • To promote sports in positively affecting women and girl’s mental health.

  • Use sports as a bridge to attaining and providing girls to better and quality education, through scholarships, sponsorships and admissions to schools and universities.

  • Raising visibility and increasing the impact of women’s sport.

  • Shift the funding landscape for women’s sport.

  • Advocating for education of the youth through sport; social and emotional development.

  • Accelerate gender equality and stimulate social change.

How will the Team measure its actions, impact, and reach?

  • Conversations and negotiations with other sports organizations and stakeholders in creating partnerships towards achieving our goals and objectives.

  • Create a robust and positive engagement of the community in sports and fitness.

  • Raise and employ funds for the purpose of promoting events and sporting activities in the community.

  • Multi-media marketing and advertising.

  • Engagement with local pop culture and social media positioning to enable the BOB goals.

  • Learning, Evaluation and Assessment of BOB.

  • Print and digital documentation of and reporting on BOB.

  • Promote girls and women’s physical activity engagement in Kenya through provision of professional and enjoyable fitness opportunities.

  • Organizing mental health awareness workshops and events in conjunction with sports.

  • Producing mental health content awareness content in the form of blogs, posters or info graphics.
