Eir Coach Program Jordan, 2022

The Eir Coach Program is a year-long football coach training program for women that promotes local impact projects around selected United Nations Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs).

In 2022 the program received funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to expand the program and conduct two season test leagues in Jordan before introducing the league structure to more countries. The program is also supported by La Liga.

In the fall of 2022 the program graduated 102 women, including national team players and women living in refugee camps, and led to 62 five-a-side games, 309.5 hours of football playing, and 27 partnerships.

GGWCUP Jordan 2021, the impact report

The 16th Tournament held in Amman, Jordan in May 2021 was the first GGWCUP held in the Middle East in Arabic. The event included a large-scale mobilization of girls and women of all ages and from all walks of life across Jordan.

GGWCUP not only succeeded in supporting women in their efforts to dream big, speak up and be heard, it also provided permanent safe spaces to play. It provided many with the opportunity to be physically for the first time in their lives and many are committed to continuing on this journey and bringing others along.

Many obstacles were overcome to hold this tournament. In addition to the restriction faced by women to engage in sports, they overcame the challenges presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic and as game days came, they played through a devastating conflict in neighbouring Palestine only a few kilometers away.

The participant surveys meant to provide detailed insight into engagement on issues and physical activity are still being analyzed. A sample of the survey results include:

  • 43,9 % highly agree: My team's actions created a positive impact for my community.

  • 57.1 % highly agree: Now I feel more confident to advocate for the causes I care about.

  • 42.9 % Agree: I will continue taking action towards the Global Goals.

  • 71,4 % Agree: Participating in the GGWCUP increased my motivation to play sports.

  • 57.1 %: highly agree: I became a role model in my community.

  • 80 % highly agree: It is very likely I will continue playing football.
