Team UMWCI FUTSAL CLUB comes from a non-profit organization in Kampala, Uganda, called Uganda Muslim Women Civilization Initiative (UMWCI).

The organization which focuses on empowering women to become self-sustaining and improves communities through entrepreneurship training, capacity building, skills development and income generating activities, dialogue, gender equality, agribusiness, counseling and guidance among others.

In Uganda Gender disparities in almost all areas of development have continued to persist in Uganda.  Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) is very high. 60% of women have experienced violence compared to 53% of men with one in four women report that their first sexual intercourse was forced against their will.  Women still do not have full control of their own fertility. Fertility choices are also greatly determined by their spouses and societal and cultural norms and practices.  In this regard the ideal number of children per women in 5 children compared to 5.7 for men.

This team will play for equality, for respect, and for women having an active role in their community and in the future.

Please welcome: Namutebi Shamirah Nakawooya Nawiirah, Kalyango Massy, Nangendo Rashidah, Ssekabira Sahar, Nakanwagi Mildred , Nalukenge Rashidah, and Naluwoza Sumayah.

We are a group of women from the Uganda where football as a sport is primarily reserved and supported for men and boys. We believe that sports are for everyone without discrimination. We play for Goal 5 because we want dignity, respect, diversity, Unity and justice for all. We just want fundamental human rights.
