Coster-Waldau and Boca Juniors for the Global Goals in Buenos Aires
Imagine a world without soccer. -Impossible, right? Now imagine a world where all the biggest clubs in this omni-present sport supported and promoted the Global Goals. Yeah...cherish that thought. -We are talking millions and millions of minds reached... Last Friday Nikolaj Coster-Waldau did his best to make that vision come true.
Poverty Alleviation Warriors - They take no prisoners!
Whenever we start feeling a bit despondent and impatient. Unsure if the world has what it takes to reach the Global Goals by 2030. We are reminded that there are women like Jenipher Nakiyemba and her team all over the world, accelerating progress, creating the future they want - now!
Moya Dodd nominates Khalida Popal to the SDG 5 Global Goals World Cup Dream Team
The SDG 5 Dreamteam is an initiative by Global Goals World Cup, the Danish Permanent Mission to the UN, UNDP, Save the Children, UN Women, Women Deliver and the City of New York. Eight young gender activists from all over the world are coming together at the Global Goals World Cup Soccer tournament in New York City in September, to form the ultimate SDG 5 Dream Team. They will be celebrated like the champions each of them are, and experience what it is like to have a whole team supporting them in the fight against injustice. The two first players where nominated at an event at the UNHQ in March. Now the third player is joining the team. Watch the nomination and acceptance videos here.
Thank you Mothers, for giving your children the gift of sport.
One of my earliest and happiest childhood memories is being allowed onto the bench at half time of one of my mother’s basketball games. Climbing onto her lap and feeling the heat radiating from her body, her heart pounding against my back through her soaking wet jersey, inhaling the smell of her fresh sweat while listening to hear labored breathing, as she prepared to go back onto the court. I felt so safe, so at home, so included in her world.
Fathers of daughters -A force to be reckoned with.
There is something about knowing, that unless you do something, your girl will grow up in a world where there are still laws and practices which will discriminate and limit her, purely based on her sex. -something, that just pushes a man from "sure, I support gender equality -in theory" into full blown action...
We believe, that if we are going to realize the promises of the UN Global Goals we will all have to work together, creating new synergies through unusual and sometimes unlikely partnerships. This makes perfect sense to us. But it wasn't until we held the co-creation workshop for the New York City tournament this week, that we realized how much sense this approach also makes to our partners.
Do you know Mariam S, Amina, Sarah, Christine, Esse, Mwanaidi, Fatuma and Mariam C? You will soon get to know them as the MTG team. They impressed in Nairobi with their great attitudes and brilliant soccer skills. But who are they? It is time to get to know the players a little better.
Who would you put on your SDG5 Dreamteam to fight for glory and the world we want? We are asking eight established role models, development organisations and decision makers to each nominate a player, whom they think has what it takes.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau talks about peace and sport with the Soccer Divas from Mombasa.
"We saw how much fun the men and children where having when they played soccer, and we decided to start our own soccer club" Says Mariam Mpaata, team captain of the Soccer Divas. But when she and a group of women founded the first female amateur soccer club in Mombasa, they made it about more than soccer. They made it about standing united to heal and improve their community.
Change has a sound...-It was composed by Ihan Haydar.
When we asked the ubercool drummer from the Danish band L.I.G.A to be a Global Goals World Cup ambassador, we could never have dreamed of the profound way she would impact our project. She showed up for what was just meant to be a regular photo shoot, doing a bit of PR for us, and left with the idea to compose our anthem!
Heads turned every time the team of tall athletic players from Moving the Goalpost entered the field. But it was not just their great soccer skills that made them win the Global Goals World Cup.
Let's just say, progress towards reaching the Global Goals could be faster! But sometimes change begins with something as simple as changing our conversations. So this is our challenge to you:
The 17 UN Global goals for Sustainable Development agreed by 193 nations in 2015 are the must win battles of our generation. They will require an extraordinary and unified effort from governments, NGO’s, private companies and civil societies. But the real key to success is that we – the people –get engaged and take action.
