Team Reclaim Childhood will play for Global Goal 5 and Gender Equality because she can, she scores!

This team is inspiring a new generation of LEADERS and empowering girls and women through SPORT. At the GGWCUP Amman they will take the ball for the Global Goals: 3 Good Health and Well-being, 4 Quality Education and 5 Gender Equality.

Team ‘Reclaim Childhood - She Can / She Scores’ is a group of women that love sport, and work everyday through Reclaim Childhood with girls from refugee and host communities, to reinforce the culture of sport in communities where access to sport is impossible, especially for girls.

The team’s main Goal is 5 Gender Equality. They will also play to raise awareness about the Global Goals: 3 Good Health & Well-Being and 4 Quality Education.

Reclaim Childhood started programming in 2008 with four weeks of summer sports camp, funded by a Kathryn Davis Peace Grant. Since then, RC has built on its flagship summer camp to expand to year-round after school sports practices, teen leadership development, and coach training in East Amman and Zarqa. Originally founded to serve the displaced Iraqi community, RC adapted to the dynamic refugee situation in Jordan and now provides programming for refugees from seven countries as well as the Jordanian host community.

Reclaim Childhood was awarded Winner of Beyond Sport's 2018 Sport for Refugees Award.

Please welcome: Walaa Abu Shihab (Team Captain), Rima Yacoub, Heba Sawafta, Yasmine Oweimer, Razan Ghazawi and Rasha Ghuweiri.

Reclaim Childhood creates safe and inclusive spaces for refugee and local girls in Jordan to thrive by playing sports, working with coaches, and building community. She can. She scores!

This is how the Team will take action

GGWCUP-Amman-Team-ReclaimChildhood1.png

Our action plan is to simply continue our work in Amman and Zarqa with our girls of the age group 7-17. We teach them new skills, give them the chance to play sport in a safe space, just like boys have this opportunity. At the same time, we will be working on ensuring their well-being and good health through sport.

Sport has a substantial role in improving academic performance, but we will also at the same time be launching an initiative where we volunteer our time to provide academic support (mainly virtually) especially during this hard time, for girls in Zarqa, and in Amman with the support of our Amman Coaches.

This is the Teams activities

  • 10 coaches dedicated their time during the pandemic to sports train 150 girls and coaches in Amman and Zarqa.

  • Did Qudrati enrichment program for 33 adolescents girls and build a strong community of girls and women.

  • Together with Team Let Gaza Live started weekly fitness training for elderly women and mothers & daughters living in the Gaza Camp.
