“We made it to the Capital City for the first time”

Greetings from Team Raising Sheros participating in the GGWCUP East Africa 2020 on International Women's Day (March 8).

Traveling leaves you speechless, then turns you into an inspired storyteller.

March 7, 2020 was the day that will never be forgotten in the minds of our girls football team.

We’ve had sleepless nights because of the overwhelming dreams flushing our minds onto what it would look like to travel to the Capital City, how would it be to experience what we’ve been hearing about; the street lights, the many cars, the tall buildings.

We achieved this dream right before Covid 19 struck the world.

The girls enjoyed the Global Goals World Cup 2020, and they got the chance to play in one of the best football stadiums in Uganda.

Yes, we won some of our games and lost some too. Regardless of the out come, we achieved the ultimate goal: Exposing our selves to the world.

'Football and education will make us fly in this world' was our motto while traveling back home.

The team felt the spirit of positivity and inspired the idea that the sky is never the limit. They can achieve what others can.

Even amidst the lockdown the girls have been training individually. Now they are back as a team with everyone persisting through the challenges a girl goes through.

The team has set a goal for 2021 while keeping safe: They will work hard on the field to prepare for the GGWCUP 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Thank you

We want to thank the organizers of GGWCUP and Mariam Mpaata, Mustard Seed Foundation (FB) for supporting our facilitation, and The Huracan Foundation (FB) who are now supporting us in preparation for 2021.
