Team Soccer for Justice plays for Global Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities

Team Soccer for Justice is representing Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (ActionAid Denmark), an organization fighting for a just and sustainable world that preserve and uphold the rights of individuals to a healthy and safe world. Through the ActionAid community, we collaborate with social movements, public authorities and a wide range of other actors globally.

The physical place of MS Århus at Mejlgade 53 is a so-called Global Platform (GP): ActionAid’s network of training hubs providing inspiring environments for youth-led action-oriented activism. Here it is possible to think freely, develop ideas, connect, discuss and act on local, national and global political issues. The Global Platforms link youth movements, organizations and individuals who promote the agenda of progressive social, political, and economic change.

Why this Global Goal?

Globally, the inequality is extreme. The standard of living for a person is highly influenced by where the person is born and by whom. Even though Denmark is one of the most economically equal countries, people born in the lowest income class have smaller chances of ending in the highest income class, than people born in families with more financial means. In order to stop the discrimination, it is necessary to reduce the negative social inheritance or fight the inequality related to disabilities or ethnic background. In 2020, only 3-4 percent of the elected politicians were Danish people with another ethnic background even though the same group constituted 14 percent of the population.

Team Soccer for Justice has chosen to focus on sustainable development goal number 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries. The focus is on the specific sub goals 10.2: Empowering and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disabilitiy, race ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status and 10.3: Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities.

Goal number 10 is chosen as we seek to create a local community, where no one feels left behind, and that can be a part of the foundation necessary to create a sustainable and representative global change towards greater equality.

How will the Team take action for the Goal?

Commonly for all global platforms, the idea of the GB is to catalyze a youth-led change by empowering young people, inspiring them to organize, act and connect people and movements all over the world. Thereby, all can learn and be creative together in challenging the power structures that are the foundation of the patriarchy and inequality seen in the world today.

GP Århus organizes and hosts network meetings, debates, documentary screening, photo exposition, youth festivals and campaign activities. The objective is to give young people a free and safe space for developing and testing ideas, connection with peers and finding collective ways to take action.
Several so-called working groups connected to GP Århus do activism trying to reduce inequalities from different angles: Feminst, queer, anti-discrimination, economic inequality and more.

In order to support the movement fighting all types of inequalities, we aim to arrange talks on topics concerning cultures and experiences to raise awareness of the issues of inequality in today’s society. It will be possible for private people as well as organizations to use the space of GP Århus to share experiences and ideas to reach the goal of a more equal world.

How will the Team measure impact and reach?

We hope to get to work with multiple organizations and collaborate with several actors to spread the necessary awareness needed to build a foundation for the sustainable change of a more equal world.
