Team DFUNK plays for Global Goal 11
DFUNK is an organization founded with the purpose of welcoming and integrating refugees in Denmark. DFUNK's Women's football team is a team created for all women regardless of their sexuality, ethnicity, socio economic background etc.
The idea behind the team is to create a safe social space for women where they feel welcome and comfortable. Thus our focus is not much on developing significant football skills. In stead we wish to offer women the possibility of taking part in and interacting with their local community. This vision we seek to practice through weekly open football sessions where women with all backgrounds can drop by and play together.
Why Global Goal 11?
We have chosen to focus on Global Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities. More excact target 11.7: Provide access to safe and inclusive green and public spaces.
We have chosen Goal 11.7 because we wish to make the public space of Aarhus more accessable for all its residents.
Our project is based on the view that football communities are traditionally very dominated by a cisgendered, heterosexual, masculinity ideal. We wish to challenge this reality.
We share UN's views on how change often starts in the local spaces, and that a sustainable, representative and multicultural local community is fundamental for global change. It is important to feel represented and included in the public space in order to feel free and equal.
Through football we aim to create a space for women to feel exactly that.
How will the Team take action for the Goal?
In order to support representation in the public space, our project is formed with the idea of spread awareness of the different activities and initiatives across Aarhus which too aim to create a more representative and sustainable local space.
By creating a digital platform we will gather the different initiatives to give the an easy overview. We will be using the social media platform Instagram since this is broadly used. This we hope will
enhance cooporation between the different organisations placed in Aarhus
enhance the unrepresented individuals acces to and knowledge of where there might be a local space for him/her/they.
In addition to this platform we will be printing posters to be placed in the public space.
It is our experience that online forums rarely are as diverse as the physical community. We all share the city, and that is why we will make this platform visible to everyone there. Just like it is our main goal for our team to support a reality where this statement is true.
How will the Team measure impact and reach?
We hope to get as many organizations involved in the collaboration as possible, and that the project will have a sustainable impact, e.g. that the different organizations experience an increase in participants across social backgrounds.
