The world’s biggest to-do list : The 17 Global Goals

If you created the world's biggest to-do list, what would you put on it? No Poverty, Climate Action, Gender Equality?⁠

The Global Goals are also known as The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In this GGWCUP Clubhouse Talk series we are discussing the targets and why the Goals matter, and what we all can do to reach them by 2030.

Global Goal 17 Partnerships For The Goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

To help reach this goal, you can:
🤝Use your knowledge and experience to help others and listen to them, when they try to help you.
🌍Take part in international and cross-cultural teamwork when possible.
👭Remember that partnerships and cooperation is one of the strongest ways to solve problems. Often 1+1=3.

Global Goal 15 Life On Land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

To help implement this goal, you can:
🗑 Remove trash from nature.
🌳 Plant only flowers and plants that are original to your country to support biodiversity of local flora which help the bees.
🍎Buy organic fruit and vegetables.
🚪Buy only furniture made from certified hardwoods and avoid exotic endangered hardwoods harvested by deforesting the Amazon or similar.

Todays focus is Global Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

To help reach this goal, you can:
💸Buy only what you need. Borrow from friends and family before you buy.
♻️If you buy, buy secondhand.
🥕Decrease food waste. Only prepare the amount of food you can eat and use the groceries you already have, before you buy something new.
🍎Buy food produced locally and that is in season.

Global Goal 14 Life Below Water.

To help reach this goal, you can:
🐟Buy only certified fish.
⛱ Keep the beaches and lakes clean when you visit them and remove any plastic waste you see while there.
📢Support Plastic change or another organisation working for reducing plastic in the oceans.
🥤Quit single use plastics.

Global Goal 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

To help reach this Goal, you can:
🌳Take care of public parks when visiting them and make sure that you don't leave trash
🏡Engage yourself in your local community
🚴‍♀️Use a bike or walk, when transporting yourself in te city to prevent air pollution
❤️Remember 'Leave no one Behind' and help the volunarable in your city
🙋‍♀️Engage yourself in local politics to promote sustainable and inclusive urban planning

Global Goal 16 Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

To help reach this Goal, you can:
🕊Promote peace by getting involved in local, national og international peace programs.
👩‍⚖️Commit to hold your guvernement accountable of implementing the goals.
❤️Be openminded and kind towards others.
📢Speak up for the right for peace and justice for all.

Global Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequality within and among countries.

To help reach this goal, you can:
- Engage in the fight against discrimination
- Support and engage in the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQI+ movements and others.

Global Goal 9 Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

💡Join a hackathon or invent something for a better world.
🌞 Use solar panels.
💧Reduce your water footprint and collect rainwater at home.
🚴‍♀️ Support development of green infrastructure and use public transportation more often.

Global Goal 8 Decent work & Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all:

👩‍🌾 Make sure that the producers behind your grocery, clothes etc have recieved a decent wage. Buy Fairtrade.
🙅‍♀️ Speak up for non-discrimination of employees.
👎 Refuse to buy things from producers using child labour.

Global Goal 7 Affordable & Clean Energy on the world biggest to-do-list?

To help reach this goal, you can:
💡Turn off all your lights and power sockets when not using them.
♻️Choose the most energy efficient solution when buying new things.

Global Goal 6 Clean Water 6 Sanitation?

To help reach this goal, you can:
🧖‍♀️ Take shorter showers. Or cold shower!
💧Collect rainwater and use that for watering plants etc.
💦Use cold water when washing your clothes - and only wash full loads of laundry.

Global Goal 5 Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls:

👩‍💼 Advocate for the increase in number of women in local and national governments. Vote for a woman - or run yourself!
🗣Use gender neutral language.
🙆‍♀️Consider how gender sterotypes affect your daily thinking.
🙅‍♀️Support organisations promoting reproductive rights and birth control.

Global Goal 4 Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all:

👩‍🎓 Take advantage of the learning opportunities you have.
📕 Enhance the learning environments at local schools.
💁‍♀️ Volunteer as a teacher.
📢 Raise awareness about equal education.

Global Goal 3 Good Health & Well-Being: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages:

🍎 Eat healthy - 600 grams of fruit and vegetables daily.
🤸‍♀️Exercise regularly.
🚴‍♀️Take the bike or walk instead of driving.
🚭Stop smoking.
📢Speak up for the right to sexual and reproductive care, family planning and education - and talk with your family and friends about this.

Global Goal 2 Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture:

💰Donate excess money to World Foodprogram, GAIN or another organisation working to end hunger and improve nutrition.
🙋‍♀️Volunteer in a food-sharing initiative or a soup-kitchen.
🍜Join an organisation helping to distribute food doing the COVID-19 pandemic.
👩‍🌾Buy food from small-scale farmers.

Global Goal 1 No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere:

👕 Clean out your closet and donate the clothes, you are no longer wearing.
👩‍🌾 Buy Fairtrade products.
🤝 If you have more than you need yourself, make a donation to someone in need: Food, clothes, etc.
🙋‍♀️ Support a charity organisation or become a volunteer.
📢Speak up for human rights.

This first talk will be an introduction to the Global Goals. The following talks will focus on the individual Goals. 

Clara have worked with the Global Goals since the introduction in 2015 with a special focus on how to engage citizens – and especially youth – in the Goals.

Clara holds a BA in political science and a master in Global Development. Since 2017 she has been working as head of campaign at Worlds Best News, a small media that communicate constructive news and is the Danish communication platform for the Global goals.
