UNDP is on the ground in about 170 countries and territories, UNDP works to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. They help countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain their progress.

In 2015 we teamed up with UNDP and created the first Global Goals World Cup and the official #SDGBall. This is the original ball with the UN's 17 Global Goals and the one used in every GGWCUP tournaments.

“In 2019 we engaged with GGWCUP to create awareness of the global goals at the people’s democratic festival Folkemødet, where thousands of citizens and politicians gather to discuss political topics.

We used the SDG-balls as a visual icebreaker in the campaign #øjetpåbolden with the aim of engaging representatives from youth political organizations in conversations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders about the goals.

The campaign was a huge success and the balls were a great conversation starter and they were recognized travelling all around the peoples democratic festival.” –

— Ditte Clausen, Lead PA & Sustainability officer, KMD.

Hosting partner, Thailand

UNDP, Chelsea FC Foundation & Nist International School

In 2017 and in 2019 UNDP, Chelsea FC Foundation and Nist International School hosted a GGWCUP in Bangkok.

Prior to serving as the honorary referee at the inaugural Global Goals World Cup Bangkok in 2017, Game of Thrones star and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau spent some time at NIST and participated in a panel with service group representatives.

The entire club and school were involved in taking actions for the Global Goals and hosting the 20 competing teams.

The students were key players in creating the two day event from start to end. They were introduced to the UN 17 Global Goals, they learned about the goals while playing ball and creating new drills and actions for the Goals.

In conversation interviews with Game of Thrones Actor and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau the students talked about how they could advance their actions for the Global Goals in general and climate change in spectacular. In return the students invited Nikolaj to different sites to investigate progress and to help them plant mango trees to preserve the cost line and of course Nikolaj also joined as the football referee for the Global goals World Cup games.

On day one of the tournament, the 18+ women’s team was competing. On day two the U11 boy and girl teams.

Some of the goals are so big: End poverty, combat climate change. None of us can do this on our own, but all of us together can make a real difference.
— Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, actor, GGWCUP referee & UN goodwill ambassador.
