Become a Global Goals World Cup host

This page is your entry point to becoming a GGWCUP host partner.

All GGWCUP events are local independently organized and funded events under the Global Goals World Cup umbrella. The events receive technical support, supervision and guidance from GGWCUP HQ.

You as a GGWCUP Host City are recognized as GGWCUP partners, and teams playing in GGWCUP events are invited into the Global GGWCUP Community, and can qualify for regional and global GGWCUP events.

Once your event is in process, you will be allocated a project group in the management tool "Trello" where you will interact with the GGWCUP HQ team, keep track of progress, milestones, and find all necessary resources such as the detailed production plans, budgets, timelines, graphic files and brand & logo guides.

Below you will find a Host Request Form. We are looking forward to also hearing from you, if you are just curious to learn more about hosting a Global Goals World Cup in your country and how to get started.

The six phases of creating a Global Goals World Cup

In average it takes up to eight months to build a GGWCUP from the very first conversation to the event and match day in your city:

  1. Concept Development, approval, and first budget draft

  2. Set the project team

  3. Engage local stakeholders, identify partners/sponsors

  4. Event Production, planning and execution of event

  5. Communication, advocacy and team engagement

  6. Monitoring impact and evaluating event.

Certain elements are universal for hosting an unique GGWCUP

  • GGWCUP x host branding: We will share a brandguide with you.

  • Global Goals branding and awareness: Branding of all 17 Global Goals at event and teams must play for a Goal to qualify to play.

  • Rethinking the active space: We work with artists, architects, and youth to challenge the conventional setup of a sports event. We are always examining new interpretations of what it means to be an athlete and where we can play sport. Please read about how we reimagine the Arena and venue.

  • Secure permit etc. for venue: Access to a venue and ability to secure legal permits to hold an event, play music, serve food, provide sanitation etc.

  • Long table dinner: When possible, we eat, talk, and meet at eye level after the games.

  • GGWCUP is for every woman. We want to make sure that the girl, who never got picked in gym class feels welcome here.

  • A good funding strategy: The approximate cost of a full scale GGWCUP event is between 100-140.000 USD. We recommend that our hosts have commitments for 75 % of their budget either in in-kind contributions or funds 5 month before event day.

  • A range of core partners to involve from: Media/press, NGOs, government, businesses and grassroots.

  • Partnerships for the goals: GGWCUP creates multi-sector partnerships for the Goals. We believe we are stronger together.

  • All GGWCUP events must be played with the original SDG Ball by EIR. Please allow for minimum 3 months for production and shipping of larger quantities.
