Global Goals Games w/ Becca Todd
In these sessions we will design and create games to inspire kids to learn about the Global Goals through sports and being active. The sessions are for everyone but especially for anyone educating children, who might want to add some innovative, fun ideas to their coaching.
Energy forever
Description of the game
Different moves represent different types of energy.
Cartwheels represent wind energy and sustainable energy.
Forward roll represents wave energy and sustainable energy.
Balance represent solar energy and sustainable energy.
Situp represents fossil energy.
How to play
Every players have to do an exercise to generate energy/power and receive a ball.
When they receive a ball they have to score.
However only the sustainable “balls” of energy can be reused.
The fossil energy “balls” can only be used once.
Variations
Change the movement to be soccer specific e.g. kick ups, step overs etc.
Advance the game
Add defenders or active goal keepers.
Organisation
Players: This game could be run with numbers of players doing the drill, as long as there are enough goals so that they don’t get bored waiting in a queue.
Area: Goal area with a small space in front.
Materials: Balls and goals.
Health slalom
Description of the game
The balls represents illness, diseases or problems.
The distance from one cone to the other represents the life of a person.
The player running across the pitch is representing travelling through life.
How to play
One player has to run from one cone to the other.
The one player running needs to avoid the balls to safely reach the end.
The other players line up and kick the ball at a good (but safe) pace trying to hit the legs of the player running through.
Variation
Add “guards” to protect the running players.
Organisation
Players: Minimum 1 player running and 4 players on each side.
Area: Any size that you have can work
Materials: 2 cones at either end of the area to run to. A ball for each player (or they could share)
Feed the goal
Description of the game
The goal represents a hungry mouth – the balls represents food.
A number of soccer balls are lined up in front of a goal.
Player/players line up and are ready to do penalty kicks.
Tips for strikers
For shooting technique, use the inside of the foot for accuracy (it has a larger surface area than other parts of the foot) or, to generate more power- shoot with the "laces" (the front) of your foot.
Spread your arms out to balance.
Follow through after striking the ball in the direction of your shot to get more power and accuracy.
