GGWCUP celebrates Team Kemet from Egypt as the champions of the 2024 Global Goals World Cup Finals held in Riyadh!

The stage is set in Riyadh for a mix of cultures and a celebration of sportsmanship! Local Saudi Arabian teams will be joined by international teams from Norway, Denmark, Colombia, Nigeria, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, Bahrain in the 2024 Global Goals World Cup Finals.

Hosted by the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) and supported by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the 25th Global Goals World Cup empowered female athletes and ignited a passion for the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the world.

Football meets social activism: GGWCUP teams tackle global issues

From March 7th to 8th, the GGWCUP brought together all-female community football teams from across the globe.

Each team demonstrated their love for the sport while championing a specific Global Goal, tackling global issues like climate change, violence against women, and hunger. This unique format challenged teams to promote their chosen Global Goal through social media campaigns and engaging community initiatives before and during the tournament.

Awarding and celebrating more than the football score

GGWCUP teams were judged across four categories:

  1. Action: Effectively promoting their Global Goal through innovative social media and community outreach leading up to the tournament.

  2. Crowd: Inspiring the audience to embrace the Global Goals and cheer for the team. Teams can use props.

  3. Style: Demonstrating sportsmanship, fair play, and a creative team identity.

  4. Football Score: Winning team scores 3 points, losing team scores 1 point, and each team scores 2 point in a tie.

Two exceptional teams stood out across all categories and played the final game: Team Malala FC from Colombia, the proud runners-up, and the overall champion Team Kemet from Egypt.

More awards: Team Serotonin UPM from Al Madinah secured first place for their passionate crowd support, while Team Alorobah from Skaka garnered recognition for their stylish uniforms. Obab from Oman dominated the football competition, showcasing impressive skills.

Empowering women through sports

"We celebrate Team Kemet's incredible victory! GGWCUP empowers women in sports, unlocking their potential to drive sustainable development," stated Shaima Saleh Al-Husseini, SFA Managing Director. "Hosting this prestigious event emphasizes our commitment to creating an inclusive sports environment for all."

HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, SFA President, actively participated in the GGWCUP, applauding the SFA team and the entire Saudi sporting community for creating an unforgettable experience.

The success of the third GGWCUP shines a spotlight on Saudi Arabia's commitment and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative to empowering women and promoting healthy living for all.
