GLOBAL GOALS WORLD CUP

Point System

The GGWCUP Point System

To create change, we must change the rules and count what matters.

We have reimagined a point system in our World Cup, and champion the best teams for the world.

To qualify to play, your team must adopt one of the Global Goals and activate it on and off the field. Your team will score points in four distinct categories: Action, Crowd, Style, Football Score. You will pick your Global Goals when you sign up your team.

A panel of capable judges will give out the points in the four distinct point categories.

Find all the details below. Please read all the way to the end.

THE GGWCUP POINT SYSTEM WILL INTEGRATE

Award ceremony

At the award ceremony we will recognise and champion the following teams:

  • The two teams who made it to the Finals: GGWCUP Overall Champion and Runner up.

  • The winner of the Finals will be championed as overall GGWCUP Champion, and qualify to play at the GGWCUP Finals.

  • The team with the highest action points: Action Champion.

  • The team with the highest crowd point: Crowd Champion.

  • The team with the highest style points: Style Champion.

  • The team with the highest football score point: Football Champion.

It is possible that one team can be awarded for winning the Finals and for ranking highest in one of the four point categories. (ie: Team Gold wins the overall tournament and Team Gold wins for Action).

We will also track the teams collective points, and announce how many points the teams collectively have scored for the Global Goals.

Action point

The Global Goals are equally important, and we reward actions for all 17 Global Goals. A few days before match day all team actions will be calculated and integrate a ranking into the tournament.

How to score action points

  • 1 point: Your team met 1-2 times and played football. You also shared a handful of posts on social media about how you as a team undertake action for the team’s Global Goal.

  • 3 points: You have done 2-5 face-face-activities for your Goal and engaged 1.000 people (on social media) to join you in #taketheball.

  • 5 points: Your team has met and played football 3+ times per month, engaged people (on social media) and done 5+ face-to-face activities to promote your team’s Global Goal. A face-to-face-activity can be done/hosted by one or more of the team players. Digital face-to-face activities and met-up counts. Speak up and share what you do and engage your fans, family and people you meet about the Global Goal you play for. Every time you inspire your fans to take action (face-to-face or on your social outlets), you raise awareness about the Global Goals and inspire people to take action.

Your team can set a different target, but reaching 2,000 on social media or 500 people face-to-face (incl. Zoom or any digital meet-up platform) will be worldclass. Always remember to document your actions.

Before the tournament you will be asked to gather your actions, the number of people reached and engaged face-to-face.

Remember to integrate the #ggwcup #takehteball @ggwcup and the local tournament hashtag.

Team Let Us Bee from Madrid, Spain, playing for Global Goal 15 Life On Land.

We visited school Gredos San Diego de la Suerte Primary School (6 to 12 years) and Kinder Garden (5 years old) a total of 1.000 children plus teachers. Each boy and girl took a plant home and we also left 3 more for the class to look after together.. The action plan in the schools where very positive for all of us and created awareness of not only the global goal 15 we spoked about other goals and also about respect of the planet, animals, insects, humans and take care of the water, recycling paper and plastics. For the girls and boys that were up to 8 years old also we spoked about respect and equality between girls and boys, same possibilities and rights now and when they are older, and to finish about gender violence. It was a really good experience.” – Natalie.

Crowd point and Crowd sprints

When "We The People" take massive and collective action, we can accelerate change. This point category is our collective contribution to breaking statistics and bias on how we normally talk and showcase women in sports. Today women in sports take up only 4 % of the sports news.

How to score crowd points with audience

Crowd points are given after each match and inspired by your team’s crowd and fans. Be aware that it is not just about being the loudest. Crowd points are awarded based on how the teams and the fans engage with each other, fair play, love, and being creative.

  • 1 point: You show up with your team on match day and support each other. Being a team is a powerful change maker.

  • 2 points: You brought family, friends or co-workers to support your team.

  • 3 points: Your fans are dressed up and have props that show their love and support for your team and your Global Goal.

  • 4 points: All of the above plus your fans have that extra love to engage and show support to other teams.

  • 5 points: All of the above - and surprise the crowd in ways to connect for the bigger purpose of the Global Goals.

Your team is travelling and cannot bring your fans?

You can still score crowd points by bringing and engaging props (and a song, a sign, a dance) to the pitch - and share your vision for the crowd and win their hearts.

We will look at all teams’ social media activities, the number of people you reached, and bring that into consideration when giving the crowd points, but most points are given because of what happens on match day.

How to score crowd points in a crowd sprint?

Your team will receive a special GGWCUP social media toolkit to use for the CROWD SPRINT.

Each sprint will run 4 days, and the team captain will receive a toolkit for each sprint. Within the four sprint days, make sure to use the included hashtags etc. from the relevant toolkit. That way we can collect your crowd sprint points.

  • 1 points: All team players share one of the posts from the special GGWCUP social media toolkit.

  • 3 points: Share a custom team social media post (pictures or video) and all team players share the post. (5-8 players/times). Feel free to use the text from the tool kit.

  • 5 points: Go viral and create a fan wave! Your fans share your custom posts including the Crowd Sprints tags and your social media handle.

A few days after the sprint is closed, we will send a questionnaire to the team captain, so you can share your activities and engagement from your fans.

Your team is part of a diverse group of teams each with their own specific resources and outreach capabilities. In order to ensure fairness across the board, all teams will be scored on the steps they take to grow their community.

We will ask you about:

  • The number of followers gained.

  • Your reach. The total number of unique people who have seen your social media content.

  • Your impressions. The number of times your content is displayed, no matter if it was clicked or not.

  • Your engagement rate. This measures the performance of a piece of content, which is calculated by the interactions (likes, comments, shares) on a piece of content divided by the number of users following the account.

If you use Instagram, make sure your profile is converted to a “business account” (it is free). That will give you access to all the data and details for the individual posts you create and share.)

Style point

We truly believe in the power of expression and reward all the creative power you have and bring to the field. Think beyond. Bring out your Global Goal collection.

The team captain will receive a questionnaire before match day, but make sure the referee table has all relevant information about the team's uniform. It is not always obvious what magic that lies behind the outfit when it comes to upcycling and recycling.

How to score style points

  • 1 point: Your team has found a playful way to express and accessorize the team’s Global Goal in the uniforms. It can be a hat, a color, maybe you are wearing wings.

  • 3 points: Your team has upcycled or recycled a minimum of 50 % of the team’s uniform.

  • 5 points: All the above and then some. You take your team style to the next level and blow us all away.

Football point

The GGWCUP is a street amateur tournament for all-women teams from all walks of life and all skill levels.

The teams you will play, might have different football experiences than your team - and they might be older or younger than you. Always play at a level that will allow everyone to be the best player they can be.

How to score football points

  • 1 point: To the team who lost the match.

  • 2 points: To EACH team in case of a tie in the qualification matches.

  • 3 points: To the team who won the match no matter how many goals scored.

What if we have a tie?

The total score in the four point categories will determine the teams that will qualify to move on to the Quarter Finals.

  • Your team will play in a group of 4-6 teams.

  • You will play all the teams in your group

  • The 2 teams with the highest total point score (crowd, action, style, football) from each group will continue to the Quarter Finals.

If in the qualifying matches we have a tie with more than 2 teams in a group, we will do an American penalty kick competition.
Each team will have 3 penalty kicks. Each team chooses 3 players to do the first 3 kicks, the teams will take turns.

If the score after 3 penalty kicks is still a tie, each team continues to take one kick at a time until one team has a better score after an equal amount of kicks.

What is an American penalty kick?

A penalty kick competition is all about keeping the head cold while the blood rushes wildly. We encourage every player to practice and that you discuss who will do the penalty kicks and in what order.

In an American penalty kick the ball is placed at the middle of the field and the shooter dribbles towards the goal. Only the goalkeeper defends the goal, she has to stay in the goal, if the goalkeeper does a save the ball is lost. Also if it comes back out to the player. If the shooter scores, a goal is awarded.

In the Quarter Finals, Semi Final and Finals, we will do an american penalty kick competition after every tie match. It is only a tie, when the total point score is tie.

Code of conduct

When the two teams get onto the field to play a match, the referee gathers them in the middle to celebrate the Goals and greet each other and the referee. Each team says their team name, where they come from, and the Goal they play for.

After each game the teams meet again in the middle, say thank you for a fair game, and receive the match score/points in the four categories.

  • Each team will play 3-4 games.

  • There are 5 players from each team on the field at a time.

  • A team can substitute freely throughout the match.

  • The goalkeeper can use hands. Read the FAQ here.

  • After a score the ball will be given from the middle. The referee will start the game.

  • No hard tackles are allowed. This will give a free kick to the other team.

  • If the ball goes out of the pitch there will be a kick in, instead of thrown in.

  • It is always the HOME team that starts each match.

The match result will be announced by the commentator and/or on screens.
