GGWCup Partners

Showcase your action for the Global Goals to the world.

Our partner vision

The world’s leading companies and organisations partner with GGWCup to connect with people to gain global exposure and create sustainable impact.

We are on a mission to unite companies and organisations around the world who share our love of sport and the desire to accelerate progress towards the SDGs (The Global Goals).

As a partner, you will join this journey to make the Global Goals come to life through the actions and commitments of our teams, and the vibrant community of players and fans, which we are building around our events.

The Global Goals World Cup was created by a Danish organisation with a global idea: Create sports events that inspire amateur athletes to become champions of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals and drive progress and change in their communities.

“Some of the goals are so big: End poverty, combate climate change. None of us can do this on our own, but all of us together can make a real difference,” – Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Join us in creating a completely new type of World Cup, which will catapult the world of sport to the forefront of action and mobilization in support of sustainable development.

GGWCup host

Realize the sustainable development potential of your community

Thank you for considering hosting a GGWCup event. Our events give thousands of women the opportunity to step up, speak up and take the lead in driving awareness and progress. Help us create a spectacular moment in time with an engaging  amateur sports event, and drive long lasting impact and commitment to the sustainable development goals in your community by engaging key stakeholders.

Our local hosts are the most important key in a successful event. When we have identified a host, we co-create the funding strategy, special focus and legacy, which is going to be the unique quality of this specific event, and which will fit the local context. The GGWCUP model is built on partnerships, while we have guiding principles and key elements, which are universal – not two cups are the same.

Why host

  • Generate great positive exposure for your city/community.

  • Realize the sustainable development potential of your community by uniting stakeholders around the SDGs, and mobilize and engage the public.

  • Be part of creating a positive legacy of raised awareness and action.

Host requirements

We will mobilize our global partners and existing network in support. However, if operating in areas where we do not have a network,
we ask potential hosts to secure the following:

  • Access to a venue and ability to secure legal permits to hold an event, play music, serve food, provide sanitation etc.

  • A good funding strategy for approximately 75% of the cost through in kind contributions and donations/sponsorships.

  • A range of core partners to involve from: Media, NGOs government, businesses and grassroots

Key elements

Certain elements are a universal part of hosting a GGWCUP:

  • Global Goals: Branding of the goals at events Teams must play for a goal to compete in the event.

  • Rethinking the active space: We work with artists, architects, and youth to challenge the conventional setup of a sports event. We are always examining new interpretations of what it means to be an athlete and where we can play sport.

  • Long table dinner: We always eat, talk, and meet at eye level after the games.

  • Amateurs: GGWCUP is for everyone. We want to make sure that the girl, who never got picked in gym class feels welcome here.

  • Partnerships for the goals. GGWCUP creates multi-sector partnerships for the goals. We believe we are stronger together

The approximate cost of a full scale GGWCup event is between 150-200.000 USD. We recommend that our hosts have commitments for minimum 75% of their budget either in in-kind contributions or funds before finally committing to hosting an event.

CASE UNDP, Chelsea FC Foundation & Nist International School in Bangkok

In 2017 UNDP, Chelsea FC Foundation and Nist International School hosted their first GGWCup - in February 2019 they are hosting their second event.

The entire club and school were involved in taking actions for the Global Goals and hosting the 20 competing teams.

The students were key players in creating the two day event from start to end. They were introduced to the UN 17 Global Goals, they learned about the goals while playing ball and creating new drills and actions for the Goals. And in conversation interviews with Game of Thrones Actor and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau they talked about how they could advance their actions for the Global Goals in general and climate change in spectacular. In return the students invited Nikolaj to different sites to investigate progress and to help them plant mango trees to preserve the cost line and of course Nikolaj also joined as the football referee for the Global goals World Cup games.

On day one of the tournament, the 18+ women’s team was competing. On day two the U11 boy and girl teams.

Why did you join the GGWCup partner team?

The Global Goals World Cup Tournament is a great example of bringing sport and politics together to create those partnerships that are necessary to achieve our common goals.
— Kristian Jensen, Denmark. Minister of Foreign Affairs
Sport is symbolic because it means that you have to participate, you have to go on the pitch when it is football, you have to try and score the goals, and you need to work as a team
— Helle Thorning, Denmark. General Secretary of Save the Children International
It is not just about what we do in these spaces right now, this is about giving you the tools and about empowering you, to go live out and continue to promote that agenda in your private lives. In your own homes, in your own workplaces
— Rufus Gifford, USA. US Ambassador to Denmark
It is a fantastic way to give expression to something that is the great potential of sport, to give back to society
— Moya Dodd, Australia. Member of the FIFA executive committee
Danfoss is already active in many public-private partnerships, mainly with the United Nations Environment Program, the UN Global Compact and Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All). This time is different, the Global Goals World Cup really allows for active engagement of employees. “Awareness-raising is the first thing we need to do, to hold our governments accountable when it comes to the implementation of the Global Goals. At Danfoss we are already planning to keep the team after the tournament and replicate it at our Danfoss campuses across the world
— Birgitte Ladefoged, Denmark. HR Director Danfoss
