Did you know for every one Wikipedia page about a woman, there are four about men?
That’s why tomorrow, on International Women’s Day 2019, we will start creating the Global Goals World Cup wikipedia page to celebrate the thousands of fierce women who have join the GGWCup movement around the globe.
We want to thank ALT.dk and Wikipedia for their campaign to encourage #flerekvinderpåwiki.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is about celebrating women’s rights, but in order to be celebrated, one has to be known. Women have always done amazing things, let’s get them recognized.
Because wikipedia is an open editing platform, we have the power to be the change we want to see. There is no excuse for 83 % of all biographies on Wikipedia to be about men.
If you are in Copenhagen this Saturday you can join the Wikipedia writing event. Find more details here.
Help contribute to our Global Goals World Cup Wikipedia page
Have you played in a GGWCup tournament, know someone who has, are you on our Dream Team? We would love to have you and more than 3,000 women who have played in our tournament in the GGWCup article on Wikipedia.
Let’s do the math. If only 17 % of the 70,000 Wikipedia articles are about women. Then we in one article can add and share stories of more than 3,000 women. That is pretty spectacular if you ask us.
11 GGWCup tournaments have been played since 2016
3,000+ women have already joined the action
20,000 actions have been taken - some even changed laws
In 2019 we have GGWCups planned on 4 continents
Tomorrow is only the beginning; the day we get the ball rolling.
We encourage you all to join the writing proces of the GGWCup Wikipedia article. We want the article page to be an archive of brilliance and continue to grow as we play for the world we want. Therefore, we invite you all to #taketheball and to help us expand it to include every awesome woman in our GGWCup movement.
We hope you will collaborate and contribute with all the incredible things you have accomplished. Look for an email from Marie Hansen (firstname.lastname@example.org) and a short and open questionnaire.
Knowledge is power. Happy International Women’s Day.
PS If you will make sure you are on our email list, please give a shout out on email to Marie and write Wiki in the subject line or leave us a comment right here with your contact information. Thank you!
